Not Everything We Do Is Legal, Consuelo Foundation
Consuelo Foundation
In 1988, Consuelo Zobel Alger, matriarch of a branch of the wealthy and prominent Ayala family of the Philippines, established and endowed Consuelo Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to operating and supporting programs that improve the quality of life for disadvantaged children, women and families in the Philippines (her homeland) and the State of Hawaii (her adopted homeland, where she lived for twenty years until her death in 1990).
In the Philippines, Consuelo Foundation supports over 60 different social and educational projects, providing services ranging from early childhood care and child development programs in Northern Luzon, to child abuse prevention programs in Mindanao, to family self help and training programs in Negros, to rehabilitative programs and shelters in Cavita, to care and training programs for mentally challenged children in Elsie Gachos Village, to residential and vocational services for street children in Manila.
In Hawaii, Consuelo Foundation provides support for self-help housing programs for low income families in Wai’anae, case management and skill building programs and health and human services referrals in Papakolea, and child at risk evaluation services in Honolulu.
Firm founder Jeffrey Watanabe has served for many years as chair of Consuelo Foundation, providing his talents, expertise and insights to this invaluable organization. Other firm members, notably Pam Larson and Lani Narikiyo, provide Consuelo Foundation with much-needed legal services on a continuous basis. Assisting Consuelo Foundation in its mission "to renew hope for those who have lost it, and to give hope to those who never had it" is but one example of Watanabe Ing’s commitment to do more than merely what is "legal."
